10/9/24 update
On my way down to get some breakfast there was a woman sitting at the end of the hall, she looked just like me, exhausted and overwhelmed. I asked her where she evacuated from and she shared Tarpon Springs. We visited for a few minutes, and both agreed that Denis Phillips (ABC Action News) is our favorite meteorologist.
While enjoying my oatmeal I overheard a man, loudly sharing, that the government absolutely knows where Hurricane Milton will hit but they keep us in the dark for TV ratings and social media clicks. These types of conspiracy theories are exhausting and truly diminish the work thousands of people are doing to keep us informed, helping people evacuate, and preparing to help us after the storm passes. I am grateful for all the work these people are doing.
Itβs been raining all day. Scott spent the day working. Isabel spent the day napping, filling out paperwork, reading and scrolling on her phone. The dogs lounged around, and I fear Chip is depressed and out of sorts, I had to hand feed him breakfast. Winston is just along for the ride and wanting to know when he can play fetch next. I talked to a few friends on the phone, knitted, sketched, listened to my Spotify peaceful meditation playlist and did some New York Times games.
The hotel cable started going out off and on around 4:15 p.m. It is raining hard here, and our phones have gone off twice with tornado warnings.
I made a delicious dinner tonight in the hotel room β microwaved some G. Hughes Sugar Free Chicken BBQ, opened a container of Publix red potato salad and pulled together a bagged Caesar salad. Delicious.
We watched the Weather Channel and ABC Action News, when the TV was working, to keep up with Hurricane Milton. Landfall was near Siesta Key, just about 30 miles south from our home. We will have to wait until the morning to understand the damage and flooding due to the storm surge.
We played dominos, had some popcorn and kept our eye on the news. High winds, tornado damage, flooding, roof torn off Tropicana Field, etc.
