10/8/24 update
Isabel and I got up early, had breakfast at the hotel and then headed to Publix for a few extra items we felt we needed – beef jerky, cuties, Band-Aids, etc. The grocery store was well stocked with all the essentials, plenty of bread and water, nothing like I see posted on social media sites. It was not crowded, and the employees were very kind. We made a run through a Starbucks drive through for our favorite drinks and then headed back to the hotel.
Today is Ryan’s 27th birthday and we met he and Ashley at the New York Beer Project restaurant to celebrate. A blessing due to our evacuation. It was good to be together. Their apartment is only 4 miles from our hotel and that gives me a lot of comfort. They too are ready for the storm, portable chargers ready, non-perishable food, flashlights, water, etc.
After lunch we had some calls from insurance adjusters. They needed more information on Scott’s Porsche, which we were able to provide. We also heard from the adjuster on the Harley, Vespa and golf-cart. They were informing us they would need to reschedule our onsite meeting; it was scheduled for 10/11. I asked them what we would need to do if those three vehicles were no longer there after the storm, worse case scenario. They shared that we would close the current claim and open a new one. Thankfully I have pictures of all three vehicles to prove we had them at the house.
I spent time today building this website. It honestly kept my mind off the hurricane and kept me busy.
We went out for dinner, Isabel found us a good spot – Ovation Bistro & Bar in Davenport, FL. It is owned by two brothers, and you can tell how much of their heart and souls they put into their business. One of them asked us where we were from, and when we shared Anna Maria Island, he told us that he loved the Ugly Grouper restaurant on the island. We had a delicious meal and treated ourselves to the best caramel cheesecake I’ve ever had. Back at the hotel we watched The Office and played Skip-Bo. This was a great break from constantly watching the Weather Channel.
