9/30/24 UPDATE

I left the Island in the morning to drop off a package to be shipped.  While I was there I learned that our mail is being held at a different location. This was great information as we’ve heard nothing about this yet.  Our Spectrum modem and router were not working, frankly anything electrical that got hit with water on the first floor is toast.  After speaking to a helpful call center agent who found me a Spectrum location with an appointment at noon the very same day I headed there and literally spent less than five minutes.  As soon as I checked in the helpful representative Jim hooked me up with some new equipment.  Next I was off to Home Depot where the night before I purchased a big fan and a new shop vacuum.  We had previously owned these items but they were in the garage and submerged in the storm surge so they had to be replaced and we desperately need them for clean up. The traffic in the morning coming onto the island was backed up over 20 blocks before the causeway.  Word has it that it takes between 2 and 3 hours to get onto the island in the mornings. Crazy.  There are many, many service personnel coming to the island - contractors, electricians, plumbers, garage removal, flood remediation companies, volunteers, etc.  Every day there are more and more things on our streets - furniture, appliances, drywall, electronics, etc.  Our regular trash pick up was today and we tipped the two employees which was some incentive to pick up more than what was just in our can.  I was very grateful.  This afternoon I successfully got our Wi-Fi up and running, look at me go!  We are blessed that we have our living space on the second floor and that we have air conditioning, many have neither.  It’s going to be a long time until our little island recovers I fear.  We are still under a curfew - no one is allowed on the island between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
