10/1/24 UPDATE
I heard from Derrick at Progressive! We have filed claims for 5 vehicles. Yes, 5. Scott had two cars and a motorcycle here and we had a golf cart and Vespa for zipping around the island. All will be totaled. Derrick gave me great directions on everything I needed to pull together and a timeline. He shared that there were about 7000 cars ahead of mine that needed to be picked up!! Suffice it to say Derrick and his co workers are very busy. I spent the day cleaning. There is muck, sludge, mud, etc. everywhere downstairs and it smells pretty bad. I started going through some things in the garage and had to sit down for a cry a few times. There were some precious items that had to be tossed such as my Fisher Price childhood toys that I had saved for years. Lucy, our granddaughter, got to play with them once. Going through my box of Easter decorations was painful as well. I was able to save all my porcelain bunnies and such but Easter baskets and other items were ruined. My tall skinny white Christmas tree filled with seashell ornaments was also taken to the street for pick up. I then started cleaning off our back porch on the first floor - cushions for the furniture to the street, discussing with Scott if we should save the furniture (we decided to do so), throwing things out, setting things up, sweating! Our lawn folks arrived - I was shocked! They do our yard and the neighbor on either side of us. They worked their heinies off! We had a pressure washer, key word here is had, I thought it would work but alas it did not. More cussing and tears from me. So I used a spray tip at the end of my hose and started moving the yuck out. I got about a third of the way done. Our pool guy Richard stopped by, he’s a great guy and we like him a lot. Our pump is shot and possibly the salt cell as well, fingers crossed our pool heater still works! Richard began treating the pool and we are flushing it with fresh water until Saturday. Then he will send one of his guys to start vacuuming the pool, it’s filled with sludge and other organic matter. It was a tough day physically and emotionally.
