The cold front has arrived in Florida, tonight it’s 69 degrees Fahrenheit. We love it!
Hot off the press we have wi-fi and cable! We didn’t expect it for weeks as there are so many cable lines down all over the island. I have a theory; it pays to be nice. We were coming home from our evening bike ride, almost 8 miles tonight, and there was a Spectrum technician on our block, right across the street at our neighbor’s home. We chatted with him and thanked him for all he is doing. Then after dinner, our first home cooked meal in weeks (seared scallops, French green beans, and fresh angel hair pasta with Alfredo sauce), I was checking email and I noticed I was connected to the internet instead of the hotspot on my phone. Could it be? Yes! Now, I’m not sure if being nice to that technician did the trick but I certainly feel better about myself when I’m nice instead of being an asshole. As I learned a long time ago you can attract more bees with honey than you can with vinegar.
While Scott worked today, I went off the island to run some errands and do our laundry. First stop the post office where I mailed two books to one of my guardian ad litem children in Orlando, then it was a quick stop at Starbucks to get my Grande London Fog with 5 pumps of vanilla syrup, such a treat. They didn’t have any food items, but they had my tea!
Next stop a bike repair shop. This one is new to me as I usually use the one on the island. I left my bike in hopes that the tech would call me when they got in. No call yet.
Laundry time! YoWash is the place to go. The employees there are so nice, I need to take time to write a review. There were people coming in who had not been there before and were confused as to what to do, no worries a YoWash employee was quickly by their side guiding them through the process.
Then it was off to the grocery store. I’ve always heard good things about Detwiler’s Farm Market, and it wasn’t far from the YoWash, so I gave it a shot. I will be back! What a great produce section. I was amazed. So many choices and great prices.
I want to talk a minute about smell. . .. a stinky smell. So little of our debris on the island has been picked up from our right of ways. I want you to imagine your entire household contents, 4 feet of drywall, baseboards, and appliances, actively growing mold on the side of the road for days on end. Add to that an organic smell, ocean water and all that goes with it, and this is what hits your nose as soon as you walk out the door. The good thing for me is that it’s like swimming, you get in a cold pool and your body acclimates. My nose acclimates.
