10/11/24 - 11 a.m. update

We are blessed that our neighbor Anne was able to get onto the island via boat this morning.  She sent us a few videos showing that our roof made it and that a sea grape tree had fallen on our backyard fence.  We are so grateful for her thoughtfulness.

We’ve read that we should be able to get on the island Saturday morning, residents only with a reentry tag.   There is still no electricity, water or sewer service as of today but hopefully we’ll have water and sewer at least by tomorrow.

Most of yesterday was spent scrolling through Instagram and Facebook for news about the island and seeing pictures and videos that brought us some relief.  The lack of communication from our city is very frustrating to me. Having had to take the role of an “incident commander” from the company I retired from I know firsthand the critical nature of communication during a crisis, and frequent communication, even if things have not changed significantly. The lack of information causes unnecessary anxiety for everyone.

I have never been much of a napper but yesterday I took a 2 hour and 45-minute nap.  Who am I?!?  I’m one mentally exhausted person.

For dinner we ate what we had on hand . . . Panera soup from Publix, bagged Caesar salad and sandwiches.  We started watching Monsters, the story of Lyle and Erik Menendez, on Netflix, probably not the best choice.  We should have gone for a comedy!
