10/3/24 UPDATE

At 6 a.m. I got a text from the tow truck driver that he was at our house, good thing I was already awake and dressed!  I was surprised he got here so early since we have curfew.  He shared with me that he was first in a very long line of traffic at the check point.  The police were there for a bit and then drove off at 6 a.m. so he just started driving.  It was a sad morning seeing Scott’s two cars being towed away.  He ordered his Porsche and waited a year for it to get to Orlando.  He thoroughly enjoyed it for the 1200 miles he put on it.  I made a cup of coffee for the tow truck driver and also gave him a protein bar and two bottles of water.  Fun fact, they get paid $700 per car from FEMA for picking up cars like ours that were impacted by a flood.  He shared with me that since it was salt water our cars would be auctioned off to someone buying them for their parts.  When there is a fresh water flood cars are many times sold to buyers overseas. After he left I ate some oatmeal with blueberries and strawberries - a luxury I realize since many people on the island do not have access to transportation to get to the grocery store.  Just a few days after the hurricane there were businesses offering free lunches and it is still happening!  Today they announced portable showers are in the parking lot of our library - bring your own toiletries!   After breakfast I headed to YoWash to find our missing laundry.  Found it!  Then it was off to Home Depot to pick up our new power washer.  Success!  I stopped at Publix to pick up a few things, most importantly to see if they had Carb Smart ice cream bars for Scott.  They had them!  When I got home I got to work.  I love a power washer.  You see the results right away.  I was able to get the downstairs back porch completed - it looks fabulous!  I did give some serious thought to the furniture and suggested to Scott that we indeed get rid of it.  The space is seldom used and if we want to make it easier on ourselves we can just get some plastic Adirondack chairs to put in the space.  This will make it so much easier on us if we have any flooding in the future.  See how I said if instead of when.  I picked up some trash that had accumulated in our back yard, plastic bottles, to go food containers, landscape lighting, and someone’s mailbox at 400W ??
